| A Little Fairy Tale...... A long time ago, in the Land of the Sixties, there existed some very powerful magicians...and these magicians looked far across the lands and the waters to find the perfect talents, for not just anyone could fill the parts they had envisioned in their minds....It would take FOUR very special young men....they had to be able to sing....to act...and become a "GROUP". For a Television show....about four struggling musicians and their quest for fame..... A believable "GROUP".... After much searching and pondering, the final four were chosen.....Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork....and they became known far and wide on Monday nights as THE MONKEES! They were funny.....they were cute.....and they could sing! Pretty soon people of the Sixties forgot that they were just "created" for the magic silver screen....they "Became".....they were "REAL"....they had worshippers...couples fell in love to their music and young girls screamed and fainted at the sight of the four young men.....and their songs have come down through the decades to another generation's ears..... But...the evil doomsayers at this time of the Sixties berated the Four, and said things like "they were only created for TV" and "They didn't write their own music"....so therefore, they can never be in the Sacred Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.......and some people believed them. In spite of this, they are still singing to this day....a little older, but then a little wiser perhaps. And they are still wonderful. And....they are REAL. I like fairy tales with happy endings.....So let's raise our voices and let it be known that the Monkees deserve their place of honor.....we as FANS have that power. This is not the end, only the beginning..... |
